8 Tips to Earn More Money as a Personal Trainer or Gym

You can only train so many sessions in a day, but here are some other ways you can add additional revenue streams.

1 - Take Your Training Online

Online Fitness courses, classes, and subscriptions are trending up 16.8% in 2021.

One of the great things about online training is you will no longer be limited to the people that go to your gym or where you train. You can start marketing your business online and train people all across the world. One of the best ways to grow your online training business is with social media. Posting useful and helpful content is a great way to introduce new people to your business and to get them to want to train with you.

There are also a number of great softwares out there that allow you to take your training online, but if you want to keep things free you can just use Skype, Zoom or any other video call platform to train your clients anywhere at any time.

2 - Small Group Training

If you’re not already offering small group training classes, you definitely should be. Personal trainers have a limited amount of hours they can train in a day, and limiting yourself to training 1 client at a time limits your earning potential.

A great way to start is to offer small group classes to some of your existing clients first. Let them know that if they join the class you will reduce the price per session allowing them to save a little money, while still getting a great workout. For example, say you set up a group class of 4 people and normally your session rate is $60 per session. You reduce your session rate to $45 per session for those in the class, but now you get to train 4 people at once totaling $180 during a session instead of just $60. This is a great way to free up some of your time and increase how much you can earn per session.

3 - Offer Merchandise

Have you ever wished there were more ways to advertise your business? Well offering custom merchandise with your logo to your customers is a great form of marketing as well as a great way to boost your revenue. There are several ways to approach creating custom merchandise.

One option is to work with an apparel printing company directly. You’ll submit to them your designs and they will print the designs on the shirts and clothing you chose directly. One of the advantages of this is it tends to produce the best margins for each product. The price of the shirt and printing ranges anywhere from $8-$15 per item and you can turn around and sell it for double or triple the cost. This link will go directly to the supplement companies website and you’ll never have to worry about purchasing or handling products yourself, and if one of your clients purchases a product using your link, you’ll earn a commission.

6 - Meal Plans & Recipe Books

We all know the importance nutrition has when it comes to achieving results. Having programs, plans and other nutrition options for your clients can be instrumental in helping them reach their goals. However, not everyone is a dietitian or nutritionist, nor do they have the credentials to give out nutritional advice and that’s where simple meal plans and recipe books come in handy.

One of the best ways to offer meal plans if you don’t have the credentials to create them is to partner with a nutritionist or dietitian that offers them. Oftentimes they’ll give you a kickback for anyone you refer to them that purchases their programs or plans. This takes little effort and can make a huge difference in helping your clients reach their goals.

Alternatively, you can create a healthy recipe ebook yourself. You can include any healthy recipes that you enjoy or find and test some from the internet. It may take some time to build a great recipe ebook, but once you have it you can offer it over and over again to every new client you get. You can set your own price, update it as frequently as you want and even post recipes from it on social media.

7 - Offer Home Workout Equipment

Home workout equipment has become very popular the last few years due to Covid-19 forcing people to workout at home. Home workout equipment can range from high end luxury bikes and treadmills to simple exercise bands. Many equipment companies offer referral programs where you can earn a commission on anything your clients purchase.

An easy way to promote home workout equipment is by offering your clients an at home workout program that requires bands, weights or some version of home equipment. This is great for a number of reasons. If your clients end up purchasing home workout equipment they will no longer have the excuse of not making it to the gym. In turn helping them achieve better results. Along with that it’s a simple way to earn some extra cash as a trainer.
